BLUES TAKE DOWN RAVENS IN SHOOTOUT

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team came out victorious in a shootout, beating the Carleton Ravens 3-2 in pre-season action on Friday night (Sept. 14) at Varsity Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Last year's leading goal scorer Hunter Atchison potted in a powerplay goal with less than four minutes to go in the first period. The Blues recorded another powerplay marker off the stick of rookie Nathan Hudgin at 11:43 in the third period.

The Ravens cut the deficit in half just over a minute later with Aaron Boyd finding the back of the net. With the net empty, Jake Smith pushed the contest to overtime with 13 seconds left.

Nothing was solved in overtime so a shootout was needed. Aidan Wallace and Atchison converted on their chances, while second-year goalie Frederic Foulem stopped both shooters he faced.

Foulem made 31 saves in the victory.

NEXT UP: U of T resumes pre-season action tomorrow night (Sept. 15) when they battle the Ottawa Gee-Gees at Varsity Arena. Action begins at 7 p.m.
