First-year University of Toronto Varsity Blues defenceman Gabrielle De Serres was named a member of the national all-rookie team at the 2018 U SPORTS women's hockey awards gala on Wednesday night in London, Ont.
 
De Serres made an immediate impact on the Varsity Blues roster this season. The native of Ville Mont-Royal, Quebec co-led Toronto and ranked first among OUA rookie defencemen with 10 assists in 2017-18.
 
She added two goals on the year to lead all U SPORTS rookie defencemen with 12 points. De Serres notched a season-high two assists in a 4-1 victory at Waterloo on Jan. 28 and helped the Blues to a 13-0-9-2 regular season standing, good for sixth place in the OUA.
