BLUES PLAYOFF HOPES FALL JUST SHORT

Box Score

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team dropped a 6-1 decision to the York Lions on Saturday night (Feb. 10) at Canlan Ice Sports.

The Blues wrap up the 2017-18 regular season with an 11-15-1 record, just shy of the final playoff berth.

Midway through the second, with the score evened at 1-1, the Lions scored two goals within 37 seconds and the Blues were unable to dig themselves out.

Andrew Hunt made 25 saves in his last game representing U of T.

Fifth-year forward Dean Klomp opened the scoring in his last game as a Varsity Blues off a nice pass from Curtis Harvey just 5:23 into the contest. The Lions responded quickly though, getting one behind Hunt just 37 seconds later.

The Blues put a lot of pressure on the Lions to start the second period, but weren't able to solve goalie Mack Shields. York's Daniel Nikandrov potted a shorthanded goal at 10:16, which was the first of three goals in the frame.

Despite missing the playoffs, Toronto had a great second half of the season. The Blues came out of the December exam break and won seven out of 10 games before dropping their final two contests.
