Bethany So, the reigning OUA women's badminton most valuable player, kicked off 2018 with a bang, winning the women's singles competition and earning a second-place finish in women's doubles at the 2018 Ryerson Winter Open.
Â
The four-time OUA all-star went a perfect 4-0, not dropping a single game, in women's singles action. She defeated teammate Kristy Chan, 21-12, 21-14, in the final.
Â
So, a fourth-year medical student at the University of Toronto, then paired up with fellow Varsity Blue Vivian Kwok to go 4-1 and finish second in women's doubles action.
Â
The Toronto native also competed with Blues rookie Isaac Ehrlich to go 2-1 in mixed doubles action.
Â
So and the two-time reigning champion Varsity Blues badminton team will now set their sights on defending their title as they prepare for the 2018 OUA championship, February 16-18, also at Ryerson University.
