Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team fell 3-1 to the No. 9 nationally ranked Guelph Gryphons on Thursday, January 4th at Gryphon Centre Arena.
After a slow start, the Blues came out flying in the second period. Less than 30 seconds in, Aidan Wallace finished a nice passing play with linemates Matt Campagna and Max Lindsay to open the scoring. It was the Toronto native's third goal in the last five games.
The Gryphons responded as rookie Todd Winder made a nice move and despite a fanned shot, was able to tie the game up.
The rest of the second was a back and for affair and the two teams headed into the second intermission tied 1-1.
The Gryphons capitalized on an early powerplay. Defencemen Mathieu Henderson riffled a shot from the point just 1:18 into the period to hand Guelph the one-goal edge.
Guelph added some insurance at the 16:11 mark thanks to J.P. Villeneuve.
Frederic Foulem made 27 saves for the Blues, while Andrew Masters stopped 28 shots for the Gryphons.
The Blues are back in action this Sunday, January 7 when they host the York Lions (11-5-1). Puck drop at Varsity Arena is set for 2:00pm.
