The University of Toronto Varsity Blues will look to carry momentum from their home opening victory over Windsor as they hit the road to challenge the upstart Waterloo Warriors this Saturday, September 9 at Warrior Field.
Â
Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m., with all the action being streamed live on OUA.tv.
Â
The Blues hold a 25-17-2 advantage over the Warriors in head-to-head action dating back to 1966. This includes a six-game winning streak that was extended by a 38-7 victory at Varsity Stadium last season.
Â
U of T currently holds a 1-1 record this season after defeating the Windsor Lancers 19-12 in a lightning delayed home opener, while Waterloo sits at 2-0 after winning their first game since 2014 over those same Lancers, before picking up a convincing win over York this past week.
Â
The teams will clash in style with a strong Varsity Blues defence matching up with what has been an explosive Warriors offence.
Â
After two weeks, Toronto boasts three players in the OUA top 10 in total tackles with third-year players Nick Hallett (17.5), Damoy Robinson (15.5) and Lamar Foyle (14.5) all proving to have the ability to fly around the field. Hallett has provided additional playmaking ability, scooping up a fumble for a 33 yard return in U of T's win over Windsor, while defensive back Jordan Gillespie had the best game of his career recording 5.5 tackles, one fumble recovery and a 44 yard pick six.
Â
With the Blues shining on the defensive side of the ball, it will look to continue to grow offensively as players adapt to new offensive coordinator Mark Surya's system. Third-year quarterback Connor Ennis has provided a steady presence behind centre, utilizing a variety of weapons with seven different receivers having registered a catch thus far this season.
Â
Ennis' favourite target has been second-year receiver Nick Stadnyk, who has eight catches for 91 yards in 2017. Also making an impact in the passing game has been rookie Jaykwon Thompson, who showcased his talent with an incredible leap over triple coverage to score versus the Lancers this past Monday.
Â
Waterloo's third-ranked offence in the OUA averages 426.5 yards per game, including a league-high 246.5 rushing yards. First-year quarterback Tre Ford has turned into the Warriors top rushing threat with back-to-back 100 yard rushing games, splitting time with fourth-year veteran Lucas McConell. The constant rushing threat has opened up passing lanes that the veteran has taken advantage of as he leads the OUA with four passing touchdowns between receivers Mitch Kernick and Blair McKay.
Â
Following Saturday's tilt in Waterloo, the Blues will return home to host the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday, September 16 at Varsity Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. Advanced tickets are on sale
