HAWKS EDGE BLUES ON HOME ICE

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team dropped a narrow 1-0 decision to the Laurier Golden Hawks in their final regular season home game on Friday, February 3 at Varsity Arena.

Laurier's Derek Schoenmakers scored the lone goal of the game, burying a rebound off a Alex Annecchiarico point shot at the 5:18 mark of the second frame.

The Blues nearly evened the game in the dying minutes as Dean Klomp skated down the ice on a shorthanded breakaway, but Laurier netminder Colin Furlong came up with the save.

Fourth-year Blues netminder Michael Nishi posted 37 saves in the loss, while Furlong made 25 in the shutout victory.

The Varsity Blues honoured graduating players Corey Jackson, Russell Turner, Connor Cleverley and Dean Klomp in a special pre-game ceremony.

The Varsity Blues wrap up their 2016-17 campaign on the road as they travel to St. Catharines and Waterloo next Friday and Saturday to take on the Brock Badgers and Waterloo Warriors.
