Box Score Recording her 100th career point, fifth-year forward Taylor Day scored twice to help lead the No. 10 nationally ranked University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team over the visiting Laurentian Voyageurs 2-1 on Saturday night (Feb. 11) at Varsity Arena.
Â
The win pushes the Blues record to 13-2-7-0 (W-OTW-L-OTL) as they sit in sole possession of third place in the OUA with only two games left in the regular season. The victory also clinches home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs.Â
Â
Starting off with a bang, the veteran Day wasted no time scoring just 1:19 into the contest to earn her 100th career point, becoming just the eighth player in program history to reach the milestone.
Â
Day, however, would continue her hot streak by scoring another goal in the second frame off a rebound from the point shot of defender Cristine Chao.
Â
Beyond the milestones, Day now ranks tied for third in points (25) and fourth in goals (15) in the province.
Â
The Voyageurs would keep the game interesting with Myla McCormick scoring a short handed goal with just over a minute left in the third frame, sparking a comeback attempt that would fall short.
Â
U of T goalie Katey Teekasingh posted 18 saves for the back-to-back victories and her seventh win of the season.
Â
The Blue and White are back in action next Thursday, February 16 to take on the Ryerson Rams at Varsity Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. with the game also being streamed live on OUA.tv.
