BLUES DROP ROAD BATTLE WITH BADGERS

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team wrapped up the fall semester with a 4-2 loss to the Brock Badgers on Saturday night (Dec. 2) in St. Catharines, Ont.

The Badgers opened the scoring 7:51 into the first period with a goal from Patrick Volpe. The Badgers extended their lead to two early in the second period as Jeff Corbett found the back of the net. Brock was up 2-0 after 40 minutes.

Toronto got on the board 1:37 into the third frame as Matt Campagna notched his second goal of the season. Brock responded though and restored their two-goal advantage thanks to Nate Looysen four minutes later.

First-year defenceman Justin Brand then scored his first career goal as a Varsity Blue on the powerplay midway through the frame, but U of T was unable to complete the comeback. The Badgers added an empty-net goal with seven seconds remaining to round out the scoring.

Veteran goalie Michael Nish made 27 saves in the loss.

The Blues are back in action on Saturday, December 30 when they host the York Lions in exhibition action at Varsity Arena. Toronto resumes regular season play on Thursday, January 4 when they travel to Guelph to take on the Gryphons.
