ATCHISON, FOULEM LEAD BLUES OVER MUSTANGS

Box Score Rookie forward Hunter Atchison notched two goals and added one assist in helping the University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team to a 4-1 victory over the Western Mustangs on Wednesday night (Nov. 8) in London, Ont.

First-year Blues netminder Frederic Foulem was solid between the pipes, posting 37 saves, including 17 in the second period, in his third win of the season.

With the victory, Toronto snaps a five-game losing streak and improves to 3-5-0 on the season.

The Mustangs opened the scoring 6:13 into the contest with a goal off the stick of Spenser Cobbold and held the 1-0 advantage at the first intermission.

It was all Toronto from there however as sophomore defenceman Evan MacEachern evened the score on the powerplay midway through the second period. MacEachern's point shot found its way through traffic into the back of the net for his third goal of the season.

The two teams were deadlocked at 1-1 after 40 minutes of action.

Atchison notched what would stand as the game-winner just 2:17 into the third period as he received a pass from Casey Knight, skated down the ice and split the defenceman, wiring the puck over the glove of Mustangs goalie Zach Springer.

Rookie forward Phil Chadder then notched his first career goal, receiving a pass from Atchison before sliding the puck five-hole to put U of T up 3-1.

Atchison added his second of the game just over three minutes later as linemate Connor Graham picked off the Mustangs at the blue line and skated in to slide a perfect cross-crease pass to Atchison on the back door.

The Varsity Blues return to the ice this Friday, November 10 as they host the Ryerson Rams at Varsity Arena. The puck drops at 7 p.m.
