BLUES FALL TO GRYPHONS ON THE ROAD

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team fell 4-1 to the Guelph Gryphons on Thursday, November 2 in Guelph, Ont.

With the loss, the Blues drop to 2-4-0, while the Gryphons improve to 3-3-1 in the early goings of the OUA season.

Guelph opened the scoring 2:03 into the contest as Marc Stevens notched his first of three goals on the night.

Blues forward Matt Campagna almost evened the score a minute later, showing great poise in skating across the top of the slot, but his shot rang off the post.

Stevens put the home team up by two with a powerplay marker midway through the first period and the Gryphons took the 2-0 advantage into the first intermission.

Toronto put on the pressure late in the second period but were unable to solve Gryphons netminder Neil DaSilva. Guelph was awarded a penalty shot late in the frame, but Cody Thompson's shot sailed wide of the net.

Guelph was still up 2-0 heading into the final frame.

The Blues got on the board with 8:12 remaining as Curtis Harvey picked up the puck off a Guelph turnover and sent a centering pass to Dean Klomp, who made no mistake tapping it in.

The Gryphons responded though with two goals 40 seconds apart to seal the victory.

Blues rookie netminder Frederic Foulem posted 32 saves in the loss.

The Varsity Blues return to the ice this Saturday, November 4 as they head to Windsor, Ont., to take on the Lancers. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m., and the game will be streamed live on OUA.tv.
