U OF T CONCEDES OT OPENER TO LAKEHEAD

Box Score In the first of two games in Thunder Bay, Ont., this weekend (Nov. 17), the University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team fell in overtime to the Lakehead Thunderwolves 3-2.

Action opened with an exciting first period as all four regulation goals occurred in the opening 20 minutes.

Lakehead was first on the board just over a minute into the Friday night matchup as Scott Gall beat Toronto goaltender Fredereic Foulem to make it 1-0.

The Blue and White responded six minutes later with first-year forward Scott Kirton picking up his first career OUA marker, evening the score 1-1.

Equipment issues then pulled Foulem from the net and the Thunderwolves took advantage of the fresh goaltender. Thunderwolves forward Billy Jenkins was able to pot Lakehead's second of the match past Blues veteran Andrew Hunt. In 12 minutes of action, Hunt would concede only the one goal making seven saves during the quick replacement.

The period would end with the Varsity Blues evening the score once again as Aidan Wallace converted a nice pass from defenceman Corey Jackson to make it a 2-2 game after the opening frame.

From that point on the goaltenders took over with Foulem returning to the net in fine form and Lakehead goalie Devin Green diving all over to keep Toronto off the board.

With neither team able to find a winner in regulation action continued into a three-on-three overtime period where Lakehead's Daniel Del Paggio was able to sneak past the Varsity Blues defence for a one-on-one opportunity with Foulem, converting the winner blocker side two minutes into the extra frame.

Foulem finished the evening with 24 saves, while Green made 32 for the Thunderwolves.

The Varsity Blues are right back at it tomorrow night (Nov. 18) versus the Thunderwolves. The game will be streamed live on OUA.tv with puck drop set for 7 p.m.
