Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team fell 3-1 to the Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday, October 28 at Varsity Arena.
After some tight back-and-forth action, the Golden Hawks opened the scoring with a goal from third-year forward Trevor Sauder 15:29 into the first period. Laurier was up 1-0 at the first intermission.
The Blues started the second period with more momentum and had a great opportunity six minutes into the frame as Connor Graham skated around the net and passed to Casey Knight, but there was too much traffic for the puck to sneak through.
The Hawks struck again midway through the frame as Neil Aird's centering pass found Jeremy Pullara, who managed to finish the puck.
Laurier would further their lead just under two minutes into the third period with Erik Pushka finishing an Andrew Fritsch rebound.
Battling back on a penalty kill in the last few minutes of the game, Toronto broke Golden Hawks goalie Chris Festarini's shutout with Hunter Atchison driving into the Laurier zone and passing it to Charlie Connell, who cleanly finished the puck.
Blues veteran goalie Michael Nishi posted 17 saves in the loss.
The Blue and White are back in action Thursday, November 2 as they take on the Gryphons in Guelph, Ont. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m., with the action also being streamed live on OUA.tv.
