O'BRIEN GAME-WINNER PUSHES BLUES TO THIRD STRAIGHT WIN

Box Score Courtesy a game-winner with under three minutes remaining from veteran forward Meagan O'Brien, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team extended their winning streak to three straight, dropping the Windsor Lancers 3-2 on the road on Friday evening (Oct. 27).

O'Brien would score at the 17:09 mark of the third period, utilizing positioning in the slot to setup a perfect shot past Lancers goaltender Molly Jenkins, who had been stellar all night.

Both goalies were under constant duress with counter attack after counter attack in the Friday night showdown. Jenkins was first to be beat due to the Blues impressive play in front of the Windsor net. Both Kassie Roache and Becki Bowering each buried rebounds from hard-pressing scrambles to take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.

U of T goaltender and U SPORTS athlete of of the week Madeline Albert would also be pressured in the first, coming up with a number of saves in the period including several efforts that nearly crossed the line.

However, in the second, the Lancers solved the first-year standout, with Munda Fadel banging in a rebound effort on the powerplay to cut into the Toronto lead.

In the third, Lancers defenceman Larissa Borowiec evened the game at the 4:31 mark, creating the chance for last minute heroics, which O'Brien delivered to ensure the Blue and White remained undefeated to start to the season.

The Varsity Blues will remain on the road when they face the Western Mustangs next Friday, November 3 in London, Ont. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m., with the game being streamed live on OUA.tv.
