BLUES HOST RIDGEBACKS, GAELS THIS WEEKEND AT VARSITY ARENA

Riding a wave of momentum following back-to-back wins, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team looks to keep rolling this weekend when they challenge the UOIT Ridgebacks (Jan. 26) and the No. 5 Queen's Gaels (Jan. 28) at Varsity Arena.

Advance tickets are on sale here with the games also being streamed live on OUA.tv. Puck drop on both nights is set for 7 p.m.

The Varsity Blues find themselves chasing the Waterloo Warriors with only five games remaining in the OUA regular season, whom they will match up with in the last week of the season, for the final playoff position in the OUA West. Picking up victories over top five teams in the Ridgebacks and Gaels will go a long way in securing the late season push for U of T.

Second-year scoring threat Aidan Wallace continued his hot streak, scoring another goal this past weekend to push his current run to seven goals over the past six games. The former Oshawa General and Memorial Cup winner has proved to be a force on the powerplay as well picking up three powerplay markers during this stretch, placing him second in the OUA with seven total goals on the man advantage so far this season.

However, this past weekend also saw contributions from several other players including assistant captain Casey Knight and second-year forward Ryan Kirkup. Fourth-year criminology major Knight proved to be essential to the Blues attack this past Friday, picking up the game-winning goal in Toronto's 3-1 win over the visiting Windsor Lancers.

Meanwhile, Scarborough-native Kirkup was a vital setup man and penalty killer. With his high-motor approach, Kirkup assisted Knight's game-winner on Friday with a nifty pass from behind the Lancers net while also helping the U of T penalty kill hold opponents scoreless on seven powerplay opportunities between the two games.

Another spark for the Toronto offence came in first-year forward Curtis Harvey, who played in his first games as a Varsity Blue this past weekend. Harvey picked up his first point for U of T on an assist of Knight's game-winner versus Windsor before a two-goal performance the following night against Western.

Following the tough matchups with UOIT and Queen's, the Varsity Blues will look to keep the offence rolling as they end their six game home stand on Friday, February 3 in a critical matchup with the Laurier Golden Hawks. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. with the game being streamed live on OUA.tv.
