Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team defeated the Western Mustangs 5-2 on Saturday, January 21 at Varsity Arena, handing the Mustangs their fifth straight loss.

It was the second game of the Bell Let's Talk weekend at Varsity Arena in support of raising mental health awareness.

The Mustangs opened the floodgates about halfway into the first period with a powerplay goal from veteran forward Matt Marantz.

With just over 30 seconds left in the first period, rookie Curtis Harvey, in just his second game as a Varsity Blue, scored his first career goal by driving to the net, receiving a pass from Ryan Kirkup and shooting it top shelf to tie up the game.

Just 23 seconds into the second period, U of T's Matt Campagna capitalized on a Western turnover in front of their net to put Toronto up 2-1.

At 7:47 into the third period, Toronto's Russell Turner notched the eventual game-winner, dumping the puck on net and between Western goalie Greg Dodds' legs.

Two minutes later, Blues sophomore defenceman Matt Heffernan took a shot from the point that deflected off a Western defenceman and in.

Western's Andrew Goldberg brought the game within two with just over three minutes to go, but the Blues restored the lead with an empty-net goal from Harvey. Â

Blues goalie Andrew Hunt posted 28 saves in the win.

The Blue and White will aim to build on their winning streak on January 26 when they take on the UOIT Ridgebacks at Varsity Arena. Puck drops at 7 pm.
