The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team challenges the Windsor Lancers this Friday night (Jan. 20) in the final of two UTSU Frost Week games at Varsity Arena, before taking on the Western Mustangs on Saturday night (Jan. 21) in support of the Bell Let's Talk campaign.
Â
Advance tickets for both home games are on saleÂ
here with the games also being streamed live on OUA.tv. Puck drop on both nights is set for 7 p.m.
Â
The UTSU Frost Week game serves as one of several free events for students as they return or begin the winter semester. Admission is free for all students with a valid T-Card and those who swipe in will receive double Varsity Rewards, which can be accumulated at Varsity Blues home games for prizes throughout the season.
Â
As well, the Varsity Blues, OUA and other conferences from across the country have teamed up in support of
Bell Let's Talk as part of a student initiative to promote mental health on campuses across Canada. 100 university sports games across Canada have been established as hosts for Bell Let's Talk events, including this Saturday's contest with the Mustangs before Bell Let's Talk Day on Wednesday, January 25.
Â
Second-year forward Aidan Wallace has been on a hot streak for the Blues since returning from winter break, scoring six goals over the last four games. Wallace also currently sits second in the OUA in powerplay markers with seven this season, proving to be U of T's primary threat with the man-advantage.
Â
Meanwhile, fellow second-year forward Matt Campagna reached the 20-point plateau for the second consecutive season, picking up a goal and an assist this past weekend. Campagna ranks eighth in the OUA this season with 16 assists while having registered a point in four of the last five games for the Blues.
Â
The offence will need to be rolling for Toronto in order to take advantage of a slipping Lancers squad who have lost three of the last four since returning from the winter break. A victory over the 11-9-2 fourth-place Lancers could be used as a momentum boost for the following day against a 6-12-2 Mustangs squad, who have allowed the third most goals in the OUA.
Â
Following this weekend, the Varsity Blues continue their six-game home stand next weekend when they face stiff competition in the UOIT Ridgebacks (Jan. 26) and Queen's Gaels (Jan. 28). Both games are set to be streamed live on OUA.tv with puck drop scheduled for 7 p.m. on both nights.
