Riding high off a spectacular upset victory of the No. 10 nationally ranked UQTR Patriotes, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team now prepare for a tough home-and-home series with the Guelph Gryphons culminating this Sunday afternoon (Jan. 15) at Varsity Arena.
Â
Advance tickets for Sunday's home game are on saleÂ
here with the game also being streamed live on OUA.tv. Puck drop is set for 3 p.m.
Â
The Blues currently sit in 10th in the OUA West with a 2-15-2 (W-L-OTL) record, while the Gryphons are sixth with a 10-8-0 record.
Â
Offensively, U of T has been bolstered by the strong play of second-year forwards Matt Campagna and Aidan Wallace. The OHL veterans are both currently riding streaks with Wallace scoring three goals over the past two games, including the game winner over the aforementioned Patriotes, while Campagna has registered a point in three straight games for Toronto, sitting just two points shy of breaking the 20 point plateau for the second consecutive season.
Â
Behind the play of the forwards up front, Toronto has relied on veteran goaltender Andrew Hunt, who has been busy making the sixth most saves in the country with 429 through 15 games. He has also played the third most minutes among goaltenders in the OUA (879:01).
Â
For the Gryphons, a duo of OUA top 20 offensive threats exists with forwards Seth Swenson and Robert Lepine sitting at 21 and 20 points, respectively. Lepine also ranks tied for third in the OUA in goals with 12, including four over the last three games for Guelph.
Â
Following the home-and-home with the Gryphons, Toronto will stay at Varsity Arena for a five-game home stand, beginning with the Windsor Lancers next Friday, January 20. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. with the game also being streamed live and on demand on OUA.tv.Â
