The University of Toronto Varsity Blues soccer teams are set to battle in-town rival Ryerson Rams this Sunday, September 18 at Varsity Stadium with the women kicking off at 12 p.m., followed by the men at 2:15 p.m.
Both games will be streamed live on OUA.tv. Admission is free and open to the public.
The No. 8 nationally ranked Varsity Blues men's soccer team enters the weekend with an undefeated 3-0-2 record, placing them in second place in the OUA East.
Meanwhile, the only team ahead of them in the East division with a perfect 5-0 record is their opponents this Sunday, the No. 4 Ryerson Rams.
Bad blood persists between these two teams as it was the Varsity Blues who claimed the third and final OUA spot in the CIS national championship last season after knocking off the Ryerson Rams in the bronze-medal match.
Toronto will look to utilize its balanced offensive attack, which currently has 10 players with at least one goal through the first five matches of the 2016 regular season. Fourth-year striker Antonio Ajhert leads the group with three goals, placing him in a tie for seventh in the OUA in goals scored.
Ryerson's offence on the other-hand will rely on two goal-scoring threats in forward Nick Lambis and midfielder Raheem Rose. Both players currently have four goals placing them in a tie with one other player for the lead in goals scored in the OUA East division.
On the women's side, the Varsity Blues and Rams both enter the rivalry contest with identical 2-4 records following tough losses this past weekend.
Second-year standout Natasha Klasios has continued her impressive offensive output, scoring her fifth goal of the season this past weekend against the No. 3 Ottawa Gee-Gees. Always a threat, Klasios currently sits second in the OUA with 20 shots on goal.
Meanwhile, the struggling Rams are still in search of playmakers at both ends of the pitch with leading goal-scorers Alessia Carvalho and Sierra Clancy combining for eight shots on goal, while as a team defensively the Rams are in the bottom five of the OUA with 17 goals allowed.
Following the battle of Toronto this Sunday, both Varsity Blues teams will hit the road with the men taking on the UOIT Ridgebacks on Wednesday, September 21 before joining the women in Kingston, Ont., to take on the RMC Paladins and Queen's Gaels next weekend.
