A NEW CHAPTER

With a combined 254 years of football heritage the University of Toronto Varsity Blues and McMaster Marauders have plenty of tradition.

The Varsity Blues competed for and won the first ever Grey Cup in 1909. The Marauders captured their first Canadian Intercollegiate Rugby and Football Union (CIRFU) title in 1934. U of T can lay claim to 25 Yates Cups, two Vanier Cups and four Hec Crighton award winners. The Marauders own seven Yates Cups, one Vanier Cup and claim five Hec Crighton winners.

Prestige and rivalries have been built within the two enduring programs and now a new chapter is set to be added.

Beyond the intercollegiate level there has always been a long-standing football rivalry between the cities of Hamilton and Toronto. There is no greater embodiment of this rivalry than the Labour Day Classic, pitting the two city's CFL teams, the Toronto Argonauts and Hamilton Tiger-Cats, against each other each and every holiday weekend. The matchup began in 1948 and 68 years later is still a major part of the CFL's schedule. But now a second stage to this historic conflict is about to be added.

This coming Labour Day Classic will see the Toronto Varsity Blues and McMaster Marauders join the ritual as the two teams will do battle before their professional counterparts at Tim Horton's Field on the holiday Monday. Kicking off at noon, the storied programs are set to add yet another historic moment to their amazing legacies, continuing the growth of the battle between Toronto and Hamilton.
