BLUES DROP GAME 1 TO THE LIONS

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team dropped their first OUA West quarter-final game against the York Lions, 5-0, on Wednesday night (Feb. 17) at Canlan Ice Sports.

With the loss, U of T will look to draw even in the best-of-three series this Saturday afternoon (Feb. 20) at Varsity Arena. Puck drop for the exciting playoff showdown is scheduled for 3:30 p.m., with advance tickets on sale here.

Following a back-and-forth opening ten minutes of action, the Varsity Blues were undone by penalty troubles as they saw seven players enter the box to just two for the Lions on the night. York capitalized on the man-advantage outshooting U of T by a final count of 43-21 while scoring two of their opening three goals on the powerplay, taking a 3-0 lead into the third period.

Varsity Blues goaltender Andrew Hunt delivered a strong performance despite York's abundance of time on the man-advantage finishing the night with 29 saves.

However, after the Lions made it 4-0 midway through the third Hunt would be replaced by Michael Nishi who collected nine saves to end the night for the Blues.

York Lions goaltender Chris Perugini made 21 saves in the shutout effort.
