The No. 4 nationally ranked University of Toronto Varsity Blues control their own fate as they head into the final weekend of the OUA women's hockey regular season (Feb. 19-21).
Â
The Blues host the York Lions on Friday night (Feb. 19) at Varsity Arena. The team will honour four graduating players in a special pre-game ceremony before puck drop at 7:30 p.m. Advance tickets are on sale
here. The game will also be streamed live on OUA.tv
Â
Toronto then wraps up the regular season at UOIT on Saturday night (Feb. 20) in Oshawa. U of T needs a regulation or overtime win to secure second place in the OUA standings and home-ice advantage through to the semi-final round.
Â
The Blues currently hold an 11-4-4-3 record and sit tied for second in the OUA with the Nipissing Lakers (12-1-5-6) with two games in hand. The No. 7 Western Mustangs are hot on their tails with a 13-1-8-1 record, two points behind with only one game remaining.
Â
Toronto's veteran line of Taylor Day, Sonja Weidenfelder and Kristi Riseley leads the team offensively. Day tops the squad with 12 goals and 21 points, while Weidenfelder ranks second on the team with 11 goals and 19 points. Riseley, the team captain from Pickering, holds 16 points in 22 games played this season.
Â
Valencia Yordanov leads OUA rookie goaltenders and ranks fourth overall with a 1.45 goals against average in 18 games.
Â
Both the Lions and UOIT Ridgebacks have been eliminated from playoff contention and will look to end their respective seasons on a high note.
