BLUES FALL TO GRYPHONS ON THE ROAD

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team dropped a 6-1 decision to the Guelph Gryphons on Thursday night (Feb. 11) at Gryphon Centre Arena.

With the loss, the Blues drop to 10-15-2 and have solidified an eighth-place finish in the regular season standings. Toronto will face either the Western Mustangs (18-9-0) or York Lions (16-6-4) in the first round of the OUA playoffs, starting next week.

Toronto opened the scoring just 1:01 into the game when forward Connor Cleverley snuck the puck past Gryphons netminder Andrew D'Agostini on the powerplay. Guelph responded though, evening the score just over two minutes later and netting the eventual game-winner, shorthanded, with less than a minute to go in the opening frame.

The Gryphons added one goal in the second period and three in the third to round out their victory.

Blues netminder Michael Nishi posted 35 saves in the loss.

The Varsity Blues wrap up their regular season schedule when they host the York Lions this Saturday, February 13 at Varsity Arena. The Blues will honour nine graduating student-athletes in a special pre-game ceremony, with the puck set to drop at 7:30 p.m.
