BLUES HOST RAMS IN SCHOOL DAY MATCH-UP WEDNESDAY

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team hosts the Ryerson Rams in their annual Downtown Showdown Hockey School Day this Wednesday, November 23 at Varsity Arena.

Over 3,500 elementary school students will fill the seats at Varsity Arena as the puck drops at 11 a.m. The game will also be streamed live on OUA.tv.

Young students will have a chance to take part in pre-game science demonstrations with Pueblo Science from U of T's Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering. Pueblo Science will also put on a special show during the second intermission.

U of T and Ryerson mascots, True Blue beaver and Eggy the Ram, as well as Toronto Marlies Duke the Dog will also be on hand for in-game entertainment.

The Varsity Blues are coming off their first win of the season this past weekend at Western. Second-year forward Matt Campagna leads the Blues with one goal and 12 assists for 13 points in 13 games, while both sophomore forward Aidan Wallace and team captain Charlie Connell have five goals and seven assists apiece.

Fourth-year Blues goalie Andrew Hunt ranks second in the OUA with 333 saves and fourth in minutes played (670:45).

Ryerson currently sits first in the OUA West division with a 10-2-1 record. Their current five-game win streak started with a narrow 6-4 victory over the Blues on Nov. 5 at Mattamy Athletic Centre.

Following Wednesday's tilt with the Rams, the Blues will host the York Lions on Friday night at 7 p.m.  The game will serve as U of T's annual Holiday Toy Toss event, with all donations benefitting the University of Toronto Students' Union food bank, supporting all students and families in need on the St. George Campus.

York is in second place in the West with an 8-4-2 record. They defeated Toronto, 1-0, on Oct. 14 after the Blues ended their 2015-16 season in the first round of the playoffs last season.
