BLUES BATTLE BACK BUT FALL IN SHOOTOUT

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team fell 6-5 in a shootout to the Lakehead Thunderwolves on Friday, October 21 at Varsity Arena.

Toronto was down 4-1 after 40 minutes of action and scored four third-period goals to force overtime.

Lakehead opened the scoring with back-to-back goals in the first period off the sticks of E.J. Faust and Cody Alcock.  The Thunderwolves were up 2-0 after the first frame.

Second-year Blues forward Aidan Wallace scored his third goal of the season to get the Blues on the board, but Lakehead's Brennen Dubchak scored two in the second and the Blues trailed 4-1 after 40 minutes.

Toronto came out strong in the third as Max Lindsay buried a loose puck in the slot midway through the frame.

Connor Cleverly then brought the Blues within one as his shot off the faceoff trickled through Thunderwolves goaltender Devin Green's legs and in.

Lakehead responded though as Alcock picked the top corner less than a minute later for his second of the game.

That didn't stop the Blues as Wallace banged in a Matt Campagna rebound on the powerplay with 4:26 remaining in regulation.

Rookie forward Connor Bebb notched the game-tying goal with 1:21 to go to force overtime.

The two extra periods solved nothing and the contest went into a shoot out.  Campagna scored a beautiful goal for the Blues, but Lakehead's Dubchak and Kelin Ainsworth both tallied to secure the win.
