LAST SECOND GOAL SINKS BLUES IN WATERLOO

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team dropped a 3-2 decision to the Laurier Golden Hawks on Thursday night (Jan. 7) in Waterloo.

With the loss, the Blues drop to 6-11-2 and sit tied for eighth place in a tight-knit OUA West division.

Tied 2-2 late in the third period, Laurier's Christian Mroczkowski scored a power play goal with 11 seconds remaining in the game to secure the narrow one-goal victory for the home team.

The Blues opened the scoring 3:11 into the game when first-year forward Max Lindsay tipped the puck in, notching his fourth goal of the season.

Laurier evened the score less than five minutes later when Derek Schoenmakers beat Blues netminder Andrew Hunt and the game remained tied at 1-1 at the first intermission.

Third-year forward Russell Turner tallied what would be the lone goal of the second period 5:45 into the frame and U of T took a 2-1 advantage after 40 minutes.

The Hawks evened the score as Will Cook scored a shorthanded goal 7:04 into the third period.

Blues netminder Andrew Hunt made 33 saves in the loss.

The Varsity Blues return to action next Friday, January 15 when they host the Windsor Lancers at Varsity Arena. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
