HEIDE, LIUKKONEN LEAD BLUES IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE

Box Score Fourth-year forward Tyler Liukkonen scored 2:48 into overtime as the University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team defeated the York Lions 3-2 on Saturday night (Feb. 7) at Canlan Ice Sports.

With the win, the Varsity Blues end the season with a 13-13-1 record in fifth place in the OUA West division.

Toronto will face the fourth-place Ryerson Rams in Round 1 of the playoffs. Ryerson hosts Game 1 on Wednesday (Feb. 11), with Toronto set to host Game 2 on Saturday (Feb. 14) at Varsity Arena. Game 3, if necessary, will be back at Ryerson on Sunday (Feb. 15). Game time on all three nights is 7:30 p.m.

Third-year defenceman Dylan Heide notched both of U of T's regulation goals two minutes apart late in the second frame. The Winnipeg native also added an assist on Liukkonen's game-winner.

Liukkonen streaked into the zone in the extra frame and pulled a nice deke to beat York netminder Chris Perugini.

Fifth-year Blues netminder Garrett Sheehan notched 29 saves in the victory.
