Box Score Photo GalleryThe University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team's 2014-15 playoff run came to an end as the Guelph Gryphons won Game 3 of their OUA West semifinal series 5-2 on Sunday night (Feb. 22) at Varsity Arena.
The Gryphons got out to a quick 2-0 lead thank to two powerplay markers in the first seven minutes. Scott Simmonds opened the scoring 3:28 into the game and Nicholas Trecapelli extended Guelph's lead, banging in a cross-ice pass from Teal Burns.
Guelph added another late in the frame when Michael Hasson finished off a great rush by Trevor Morbeck and the visitor's took a 3-0 lead into the first intermission.
The Blues got on the board midway through the second period as fifth-year defecnceman Cam Bernier sent a point shot through traffic to beat Gryphons netminder Andrew D'Agostini.
The Gryphons answered back just over two minutes later as Kyle Neuber sent a wide-angled shot into the back of the net. Â Guelph was up 4-1 heading into the second period.
Guelph's Carlos Amestoy and Toronto's Corey Jackson added third period goals to round out the scoring.
Brett Willows and Garrett Sheehan posted 13 and 18 saves, respectively, in the loss. D'Agostini made 29 saves in the win.
Toronto ends their 2014-15 campaign with a 16-15-1 overall record having won their first playoff series since 2007.Â
