BLUES COME BACK FALLS SHORT

Box Score Despite two late goals, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team dropped a narrow 4-3 decision to the No.4 nationally ranked McGill Redmen on Saturday night (Nov. 7) at Varsity Arena.

After McGill jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first period courtesy a Daniel Milne goal, it was first-year forward Max Lindsay who responded for the Blues, tying things up with just five minutes remaining in the period.

However, McGill would jump back out in front scoring the next three straight goals.

With under a minute left in the first period, McGill added two more with a powerplay marker from Patrick Delisle-Houde and strong finish from Rock Regimbald to take the 3-1 lead into the intermission.

Then midway through the second, Jonathan Bonneau sent a shot that beat Varsity Blues fifth-year goaltender Brett Willows, making it 4-1 for the Redmen.

In the final frame the Varsity Blues would have their chances and it was third-year forward Connor Cleverley who found the back of the net when a Matt Heffernan feed set him up right in the slot for the quick wrist shot.

With Willows pulled, Toronto pushed for the comeback and chances would present themselves with captain Andrew Doyle and points leader Patrick Marsh getting sound chances to score. With only five seconds remaining, Charlie Connell was able to find the back of the net, but it wasn't enough as the Redmen came away with the narrow victory.

Willows ended the night with 24 saves.

The Varsity Blues return to action next Friday, November 13 when they travel to Sudbury, Ont., to take on the Laurentian Voyageurs. Game time is set for 7:45 p.m.
