Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team defeated the Lakehead Thunderwolves 6-5 in double overtime on Saturday night (Nov. 28) in Thunder Bay.
With the win, the Blues are now 6-7-2 and move into a tie for fifth place in the OUA West division.
Despite Toronto scoring four first period goals, Lakehead added two in the second period to bring the game within reach heading into the final frame. The Thunderwolves didn't stop there, scoring three goals within 4:23 late in the third period to take a 5-4 advantage.
Fourth-year forward Patrick Marsh stepped up, scoring his third goal of the game with just 1:33 remaining in regulation to force extra time.
After five minutes of 4-on-4 solved nothing, third-year defenceman Charlie Connell skated in from the corner and roofed the puck past Lakehead netminder Justin McDonald in the 3-on-3 OT for the game-winner.
Marsh ended the night with three goals, while Christian Finch and Dean Klomp also added single tallies. Finch recorded one goal and three assists, while rookie Mathew Campagna had four assists in the victory.
Fifth-year netminder Brett Willows posted 43 saves in the win.
The Varsity Blues return to the ice this Thursday, December 3 as they travel to Oshawa to take on the UOIT Ridgebacks. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
