BLUES HOST LAKERS FRIDAY NIGHT

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's and women's volleyball teams conclude a four-game home stand this Friday night (Nov. 20) when they host the Nipissing Lakers at the Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport.

Women are set to begin at 6 p.m., followed by the men at 8 p.m. Advanced tickets are on sale here.

The No. 4 nationally ranked Varsity Blues women's volleyball team sits atop the OUA East division with a perfect 6-0 record.

The reigning OUA champions have picked up right where they left off last season, leading the OUA in nearly every statistical category including kills per set (13.55), assists per set (12.40), serving aces per set (2.65), digs per set (17.80), and points per set (18.70).

First-year right side sensation Alina Dormann has proven to be a key ingredient in the Blues early season success. Dormann ranks within the OUA top five in both kills per set (3.40) and points per set (4.50). The Ottawa native has hit double-digit kills in four of Toronto's six games so far this season, while establishing a strong connection with both U of T setters, 2014-15 OUA second team all-star Madelyn Mandryk and third-year Erin Jacobs.

Meanwhile, on the left side, second-year Anna Feore has also taken a leap forward in production, becoming an integral part of the Varsity Blues attack. During Toronto's current home stand, Feore's 33 points from kills, blocks, and serving aces has only been outscored by the aforementioned Dormann.

Nipissing will be in tough to shut down the offensive depth of U of T, as they currently sit last in the East with an 0-5 record.

For the men, both teams enter the game after tough four-set matchups the previous weekend. The Blues dropped a 3-1 decision to Waterloo, while Nipissing downed the York Lions 3-1. The Varsity Blues will be looking to turn things around, currently sitting in eighth place in the OUA with a 2-4 record, while the Lakers stand just ahead in fifth with a 4-3 mark.

Fifth-year left side hitter Stefan Ristic continues to be a leader for Toronto, ranking in the OUA top five in total kills (89), kills per set (4.24), and points per set (4.9). Ristic has recorded 12 or more points in every game this season, while registering double-digit kills in all but one game.

Fifth-year setter Aleksa Miladinovic ranks sixth in the OUA, averaging 9.05 assists per set, while rookie libero Andrew Kos is also sixth in the province with 2.62 digs per set.

For Nipissing, second-year outside hitter Cameron Branch has also proven to be a true offensive threat in the OUA. The 2014-15 OUA second-team all-star led the OUA in kills per set last season with 4.08 and ranked third in total kills with 245. This season Branch has remained a mainstay on the OUA leaderboard, ranking fifth in kills per set (3.90) and second in total kills (113).

Following the Friday night showdown, both the Varsity Blues men's and women's volleyball teams will head just up the road to take on the York Lions Sunday night (Nov. 22). The women will kick things off at 6 p.m., followed by the men at 8 p.m. Both games will be streamed live on OUA.tv.
