Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team dropped a 6-3 decision to the Nipissing Lakers on Saturday, November 14 at Memorial Gardens in North Bay, Ont.
The Lakers opened the scoring 2:18 into the game with a powerplay marker from Colin Campbell. The Blues responded though when rookie standout Mathew Campagna beat Lakers goalie Kirk Rafuse just over five minutes later.
Nipissing would take a 2-1 lead into intermission after a goal from Erik Robichaud.
The Blues quickly evened the score as fourth-year forward Christian Finch potted his third goal of the weekend just 40 seconds into the second frame. The home team answered back with two goals midway through the frame to take a 4-2 lead after 40 minutes.
Third-year forward Connor Cleverley notched his fourth goal of the season to cut the deficit to just one midway through the third period; however, the Lakers added two more goals in the last five minutes of the game to come away with the 6-3 win.
Blues goaltenders Brett Willows and Andrew Hunt made six and 17 saves, respectively, in the loss.
The Varsity Blues will look to bounce back next weekend as they host the RMC Paladins and Carleton Ravens at Varsity Arena.
