VOLLEYBALL BACK AT GOLDRING CENTRE THIS WEEKEND

Following two exciting home openers, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's and women's volleyball teams are prepped and ready for a weekend doubleheader with games on Saturday and Sunday afternoon (Nov. 14-15) at the Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport.

The women will kick things off both days when they welcome the Brock Badgers on Saturday and the Ottawa Gee Gees on Sunday. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.

For the men, they will take on the McMaster Marauders Saturday followed by the Waterloo Warriors on Sunday. First serve is schedule for 3 p.m.

Advance tickets are on sale here. Sunday's games will also be streamed live on OUA.tv.

The No. 5 Varsity Blues women's volleyball team have started this season right where they left off last year, leading the OUA with a perfect 4-0 record.

U of T has a strong core of veterans, but it has been first-year right side hitter Alina Dormann who has been making her mark on the OUA. Dormann ranks within the top five of the OUA in both kills (46) and kills per set (3.29). Her strong attacking game has lifted her to third in the OUA in points per set (4.3).

Meanwhile, fifth-year veteran Bojana Radan has re-established herself as a major threat in the middle. Currently fifth in the OUA in blocks per set (1.07), Radan tops the Blues with 15 total blocks this season, while leading the team's defensive efforts at the net.

The 1-5 Badgers will look to play spoiler in the weekends opening match. A tough start to the season has the Badgers ranking last in the OUA in kills per set (7.70), digs per set (11.6), and points per set (10.).

The Gee-Gees always provide a tough match for Toronto. Ottawa is 4-2 to start the season and was the lone team to top Toronto in the 2014-15 regular season.

They are led by 2014-15 OUA East first team all-star setter Kira Tome, who averages over 9.5 assists per this season in assists per set (9.62). just ahead of Varsity Blues setter Madelyn Mandryk.

Ottawa's left side Caroline Lemay and middle Alix Durivage have entrenched themselves atop the OUA in total kills with Lemay tied for first with 67 and Durivage third with 62.

For the men, momentum will be with the Blues following an exciting five-set thriller with the No. 10 Ryerson Rams.

Zia Karim made his presence felt in the tough matchup, totalling 13 kills and two blocks for 15 points. The 6-foot-6 middle worked hard throughout the five sets and capitalized in crucial moments of the match including scoring a critical set-clinching kill to push the match to the decisive fifth.

However, the Blues and the OUA continue to be led by outside hitter Stefan Ristic. Ristic sits atop the OUA standings with 4.93 kills per set average while tallying 69 kills in the teams four matches so far.

The fifth-year transfer will be in tough to start the weekend though as the Blues begin with the No. 1 McMaster Marauders.

The Marauders present a well-rounded attack, ranking in the top five in nearly every statistical category including kills per set (12.82), blocks per set (2.41), points per set (16.8).

Outside hitter Stephen Maar leads the attack sitting just behind Ristic with a 4.57 kills per set average.

Waterloo (2-3) will be looking to right side Braden Cok to continue his strong play, which has seen him reach 20 or more kills in two of the Warriors last three games.

Cok has benefitted from the strong setting of Gibson Graham, who has also showcased strong outings in two of the team's last three matches with over 50 assists.
