MEN’S HOCKEY HOSTS MUSTANGS FRIDAY NIGHT

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team take on the undefeated Western Mustangs Friday night (Oct. 23) at Varsity Arena.

The Varsity Blues will be riding high after a hard fought 4-2 victory over the visiting Laurier Golden Hawks last Saturday.

U of T has been led up front by fourth-year captain Andrew Doyle, who recorded two goals in Saturday's win, including the game-winner. Doyle currently leads the OUA in game-winners with two early in the season. The well-rounded forward also leads the OUA in short-handed goals displaying a skill on the penalty kill to force turnovers and convert them for big change of momentum moments.

First-year forward and highly touted recruit Matt Campagna has also had success early in the 2015-16 season. The former Plymouth Whaler sits tied for second on the team with five points (2 goals, 3 assists). However, beyond the offensive production Campagna has also proven to be a force in the face-off circle, which Toronto has used to its advantage at both ends of the rink.

Patrick Marsh has notched three goals and two assists, while Christian Finch and Russell Turner also have five points in four games so far this season.

Toronto netminders Brett Willows and Michael Nishi have split duties between the pipes, holding .826 and .928 save percentages, respectively.

U of T will be in tough though facing one of the best defensive units this Friday. Western currently leads the OUA in goals allowed, having only given up six so far this season. Goalies Greg Dodds and Peter Delmas have combined for a respectable .936 save percentage and a mere 1.75 goals against average in the team's three games thus far.

Meanwhile, up front the Mustangs have been led by a pair of young forwards. Second-year Trent Ouellette and first-year Ray Huether sit atop the Western point's standings with an identical three goals and two assists. Ouelette is currently riding a three-game scoring streak as the Mustangs prepare for the Friday night showdown with the Blues.

Following their home-tilt with the Western, U of T will hit the road for two games beginning Friday, October 30 in St. Catherine's, Ont. against the winless Brock Badgers.
