Box Score Photo GalleryThe University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team defeated the Laurier Golden Hawks 4-2 Saturday night (Oct. 17) at Varsity Arena.
With the win, the Blues are 2-2 after the first two weeks of OUA men's hockey action.
Two well-timed goals from fourth-year captain Andrew Doyle led the Blues to victory as the veteran forward recorded both the opening goal and game-winner for U of T.
After falling behind 1-0 midway through the first period, Doyle tied things up short-handed, finishing off a 2-on-1 feed from third-year forward Casey Knight.
The score remained even into the second period until Blues forward Christian Finch found the back of the net off a big rebound when Laurier goalie Colin Furlong couldn't handle the Charlie Connell point shot. Connell would finish the night with three assists, showcasing a strong presence from the blue line.
Laurier tied things up just before the end of the third period, but Doyle once again had a response early in the third, jamming in the loose puck after a scramble in front of the Laurier goal.Â
Third-year forward Patrick Marsh added an insurance marker just two minutes later to secure the U of T victory.
Fifth-year netminder Brett Willows posted 43 saves in the victory.
The Varsity Blues return to action next Friday, October 23 as they host the Western Mustangs at Varsity Arena. Puck-drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
