SECOND PERIOD SINKS BLUES

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team dropped a 4-1 decision to the Waterloo Warriors on Friday night (Oct. 16) at Columbia Ice Field in Waterloo.

The home Warriors squad scored three second-period goals in the victory, including two from forward Mitch Elliott.

With the loss, the Blues drop to 1-2-0 in the early goings of the OUA hockey season.

An action-packed first frame saw third-year U of T netminder Michael Nishi shine, making an impressive 24 saves to keep the game scoreless through the first 20 minutes of action.

Up 3-0 after the second, Waterloo added a fourth goal when Stephen Silas scored on the man advantage at the 8:13 mark.

U of T rookie forward Mathew Campagna got the Blues on the board midway through the third period, finishing off a nice passing play with Andrew Doyle and Christian Finch. That was all the Blues could muster in the 4-1 loss.

Nishi ended the night with 43 saves.

The Varsity Blues look to bounce back tomorrow night when they host the Laurier Golden Hawks at Varsity Arena. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
