CRUCIAL WEEKEND FOR MEN’S HOCKEY

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team will be after a four-point weekend as they travel to take on the Ryerson Rams Friday night before hosting the Western Mustangs Saturday at Varsity Arena.

Game time on both nights is 7:30 p.m. Advanced tickets to Saturday's contest are on sale here. The game will also be streamed live on OUA.tv.

The Blues are 7-10-1 and in eighth place in the OUA West division, but are only five points out of sixth. With nine regular season games remaining, anything can happen as U of T plays crucial opponents who could catapult them upwards in the standings.

Returning to the Toronto lineup are fourth- and fifth-year netminders Brett Willows and Garrett Sheehan. Both returning from injury, Willows saw action in 19 games last season and held a .911 save percentage, while Sheehan accumulated a .921 percentage over 10 games.

Second-year goalie Michael Nishi has answered the call and filled the void, starting in Toronto's last 12 games and holding an impressive .908 save percentage.

Fourth-year forward Jeff Brown currently leads the squad with eight goals and 10 assists for 18 points in as many games. Fellow assistant captain Michael Markovic has notched a team-high 10 goals, while Christian Finch and Tyler Liukkonen have posted 15 and 16 points, respectively. Finch also ranks second in the OUA with five powerplay markers this season.

The Ryerson Rams are 10-7-1 and in fourth place in the West. Veteran forward Mitch Gallant leads the Rams with nine goals and 12 assists for 21 points in 18 games, while rookie defenceman Alex Basson ranks fourth in the OUA with 18 assists. Second-year forward Domenic Alberga is also a threat around the net, having tallied a team-high 12 goals so far this year.

Troy Passingham has started all 18 games for the Rams and holds a .917 save percentage.

The No. 10 Western Mustangs are 14-4-1 and in second place in the West. The Mustangs are led by Steve Reese, who has seven goals and 18 assists, while Stegan Salituro has notched a team-high 10 goals while adding 11 assists in 19 games.

Greg Dodds is the Mustangs go-to man between the pipes. He holds a .918 save percentage in 16 games this season.
