HOCKEY LOOKS TO SECURE PLAYOFF POSITIONING

With just two weeks left of regular season games and playoff berths on the line, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's and women's hockey teams are looking for crucial wins at home this weekend (Feb. 7-9).

Toronto's men will defend their home ice against the York Lions on Friday before taking on the Windsor Lancers on Saturday in Windsor, Ont. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m. both nights. Both games will be streamed live.

The Blues are 12-10-2 and sit in seventh place in the OUA standings with four games in hand. Final playoff positioning is still very much up for grabs in the West division as U of T look to secure home ice.

Michael Markovic (Toronto)and Tyler von Engelbrechten (Markham, Ont.) have been leading the Blues offence. Markovic has notched a team high 15 goals and added 14 assists, while von Engelbrechten has notched nine goals and 14 assists. Von Engelbrechten has scored four power plays goals this season.

The No. 9 Blues women play their final regular season game at home against the No. 5 Queen's Gaels on Sunday at 2 p.m. The game will be streamed live via GoBlues.tv.

Toronto is 17-5-1 and has clinched a home ice advantage. U of T can finish as high as third in the OUA standings following this weekend's games. Queen's sits one point behind the Blues with two games in hand and will take on Ryerson prior to Sunday's match up.

U of T went 2-0 over the weekend (Jan. 31-Feb. 1) defeating the Lancers 2-1 and the Western Mustangs 4-1 leading up to their final game.

Team captain Kelly O'Hanlon (Markham, Ont.) leads the Blues with 23 points having netted five goals and recorded 18 assists, while second-year stand out Taylor Day (Ilderton, Ont.) has tallied the team high 11 goals and 10 assists.

Courtney Brind'Amour-McClure (Waterdown, Ont.) has also seen success on the Blues forward line notching eight goals and nine assists.

Veteran goalie Nicole Kesteris (Aurora, Ont.) leads the OUA and ranks third in the CIS with a .946 save percentage.

In their first meeting this season the Blues were defeated by the Gaels 3-2 on November 9, in Kingston, Ont.

The Blues will honour their graduating players in a special pre-game ceremonies prior to both games.
