BLUES FALL TO GAELS, TO HOST RAMS IN QUARTERS

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team fell 63-58 to the Queen's Gaels on Friday night (Feb. 14) at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym.

With the loss, the Blues are now 11-10 and have solidified the fourth spot in the OUA East division. Toronto will host Ryerson, who have secured the fifth spot, in an OUA East quarter-final match up on Wednesday, February 19 at 7 p.m.

Fourth-year forward Liane Bailey (Montreal) led all players with 17 points, while adding six rebounds and two assists. Etobicoke native Jill Stratton added 12 points and a team-high eight boards, while rookie Rahshida Atkinson (Scarborough) had eight points and both Vanessa Brathwaite and Alicia Van Kampen notched seven in the loss.

The Gaels got out to a 9-3 lead early in the first but the Blues went on a 5-0 run to bring it back within reach. Jenny Wright drained a jumper in the dying seconds to give Queen's a 12-8 lead after 10 minutes of action.

Queen's went up 23-16 midway through the frame; however the Blues battled back again with a 6-0 streak and the Gaels held a 25-22 lead at halftime.

The visitor's extended their lead for good, outscoring the Blues 22-13 in the third quarter, and despite a strong rallying effort in the fourth, the Blues could not complete the comeback.

Third-year forward Jenny Wright led the Gaels with 15 points, while Gemma Bullard added 12. Robyn Pearson notched a game-high 13 boards in the win.

The Varsity Blues wrap up the regular season tomorrow night as they host the York Lions at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym at 6 p.m. U of T will celebrate their graduating players in a special post-game ceremony tomorrow.
