With only two regular season games remaining, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team needs a four-point performance to secure playoff positioning in the OUA West division.
U of T heads across town to Ryerson (16-10-0) for the Downtown Showdown match-up on Wednesday, February 12 at 11:30 a.m. Over 2,000 elementary school children will be in attendance to see the two teams vie for crucial points.
The Blues then host the Guelph Gryphons (12-11-4) on Saturday night (Feb. 15) at Varsity Arena at 7:30 p.m.
Both games will be streamed live, with links available on varsityblues.ca.Â
U of T (13-11-2) is currently in a three-way tie for sixth place in the West, only one point out of fifth, but with the ninth-place Waterloo Warriors (12-11-3) not far behind.
The Blues are coming off a 1-1 weekend, which saw them shut out York 3-0 at home before dropping a 5-1 decision to the Lancers in Windsor on Saturday night.
Fourth-year forward Michael Markovic leads the team with 15 goals and 14 assists for 29 points, while fellow assistant captain Jeff Brown has notched 12 goals and 10 assists. Tyler von Engelbrechten also shares the team's lead with 14 assists.
Third-year goaltender Brett Willows of Rivers, Man., has assumed the starter's role and holds a .907 save percentage while earning two shut outs in 18 starts this season.Â
