Box Score The No. 9 University of Toronto women's hockey team dropped a 4-3 decision to the Ryerson Rams on Friday afternoon (Oct. 31) at Mattamy Athletic Centre.
With the loss, the Blues drop to 4-2-0 and remain in fourth-place in the OUA standings.
Ryerson opened the scoring 7:54 into the first period as Emma Rutherford sent a snap shot from the slot into the back of the net. The Rams extended their lead with a powerplay goal, the first of three on the day, with 1:55 remaining in the first period.
Toronto got on the board early in the second period as Autumn Garnham beat Rams netminder Alex Armstrong. Ryerson responded just over two minutes later, scoring back-to-back powerplay goals within 33 seconds of each other.
The Rams were up 4-1 going into the third period.
Kristi Riseley brought the game within two with 4:23 remaining in the third period, and Amanda Ricker tapped in the puck at the side of the net with 2:17 to go on a 6-on-4 opportunity to bring the game within one.
That would be all the Blues could muster as they dropped their second game of the season.
Fifth-year Blues goalie Nicole Kesteris made 27 saves in the loss.
The Varsity Blues wrap up their road stretch next Sunday, November 9 as they head to Waterloo to take on the Warriors. Game time is set for 2:30 p.m.Â
