Third-year forward Patrick Marsh scored one goal and added one assist in helping the University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team to a 4-1 victory over the Waterloo Warriors on Friday night (Oct. 24) at Varsity Arena.

With the win, the Blues improve to 2-3-0, while Waterloo drops to 4-2-0 in the early goings of the regular season.

Second-year defenceman Corey Jackson opened the scoring 11:16 into the second period as he sent a wrist shot from the point through traffic to beat Warriors goaltender Chris Hurry.

Toronto extended their lead just over two minutes later as third-year forward and Clarkson University transfer Patrick Marsh notched his first goal in the Blue and White, capitalizing on a weird bounce in front of the Waterloo net.

The Warriors cut the deficit with just three seconds remaining in the second as third-year forward Brett Mackie banged in a rebound off a Stephen Silas point shot.

U of T led 2-1 at the second intermission.

The Blues quickly restored the two-goal advantage as assistant captain Jeff Brown buried the puck off a Marsh rebound on the powerplay just 1:46 into the third.

Toronto killed off numerous penalties in the third period and assistant captain Michael Markovic added an empty netter with 1:03 remaining to seal Toronto's second win of the season.

Brett Willows posted 31 saves, while Michael Nishi added 16 in the victory.

The Varsity Blues return to action this Sunday, October 26 as they head to Waterloo, Ont., to take on the Laurier Golden Hawks. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
