BUSY WEEKEND FOR BLUES HOCKEY

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues hockey teams have a busy weekend (Jan. 24-26) ahead as the men take on the Western Mustangs on the road Friday night before both teams take on Brock University at Varsity Arena.

Toronto's women will defend their home ice in support of the Varsity Blues Think Pink weekend when they take on the Badgers Saturday afternoon. Puck is set to drop at 4 p.m. The team will then match up against the No. 3 Guelph Gryphons on Sunday, January, 26 at 2 p.m.

Advanced tickets for the games are on sale here. Sunday's game will be streamed live via GoBlues.tv.

U of T improved to 14-4-1 after going 2-0 over the weekend (Jan.18-19). The Blues ended an eight-year drought when they notched a 3-2 shoot-out win over the then No.2 Laurier Golden Hawks. Toronto followed that up with a win over the Waterloo Warriors 3-2 on Sunday. Toronto is currently tied for third in the OUA standings with the Queen's Gaels.

The Blues are led by second-year standout Taylor Day (Ilderton, Ont.) who has notched eight goals and seven assists so far this season. Day scored two goals against the Hawks, netting the Blues first goal in the shoot-out.

Fourth-year netminder Nicole Kesteris (Aurora, Ont.) has been a force between the pipes for the Blues. Kesteris posted 31 saves in the win over Laurier and was impenetrable in the shoot-out, and now ranks first in the CIS with a .950 save percentage.

Toronto is back in the CIS rankings this week, taking the number ten spot.

The Blues men will travel to London, Ont., on January, 24 to face the Mustangs before hosting the Badgers at home the following night. The puck drops at 7 p.m. on Friday and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Toronto sits in fifth place in the OUA West division with an 11-8-2 after falling 8-4 to the Waterloo Warriors on January, 17.

Fourth-year Michael Markovic (Toronto) leads the Blues with 13 goals and 13 assists. Markovic ranks number nine on the OUA leaderboard.

Third-year forwards Tyler von Engelbrechten (Markham, Ont.) and Jeff Brown (Toronto) have also been source of production for Toronto notching eight and nine goals, respectively.

Goaltenders Garrett Sheehan and Brett Willows have been sharing duties between the pipes. Sheehan boosts a save percentages of .917 with Willows close behind with .909.

The then ranked No.3 Mustangs will be looking to settle the score on Friday night after being defeated by the Blues 5-3 at Varsity Arena on October, 18.
