THIRD PERIOD SURGE SINKS BLUES

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team dropped an 8-4 decision to the Waterloo Warriors on Friday, January 17 at Columbia Ice Field.

With the loss, the Blues drop to 11-8-2 and sit tied for fourth with Windsor and Guelph in the OUA West division.

Deadlocked at 4-4 after 40 minutes, the Warriors exploded for four goals in the third period, three of which came on the powerplay, to secure the win.

Blues leading scorer Michael Markovic opened the scoring midway through the first period, only to be answered by Waterloo's Stephen Silas. The two teams were tied at 1-1 after the first.

Toronto's Ernesto Valente scored just 1:57 into the second period, but the Warriors went ahead with back-to-back goals within the next six minutes. Markovic evened the score once again with a shorthanded marker 11:33 into the second frame, but Warriors forward Colin

Behenna responded with a shorthanded goal of his own to leave the game even at 4-4 heading into the final frame.

The Varsity Blues return to the ice next Friday, January 24 as they head to London, Ont., to take on the Western Mustangs. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
