BIG ROAD WEEKEND FOR BLUES BASKETBALL

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's and women's basketball teams are on the road this weekend (Jan. 17-18) to take on the Ottawa Gee-Gees and the Carleton Ravens.

Toronto will face off against the Gee-Gees on Friday night before they battle the No. 1 Ravens on Saturday. The women are set to tip off at 6 p.m. followed by the men at 8 p.m. on both nights.

After splitting games over the weekend (Jan. 10-11), the Blues women improve to 5-7 and move into sole possession of fourth place in the OUA East division.

Fourth-year guard Jill Stratton (Etobicoke, Ont.) leads the Blues offence with 13.7 points per game. Stratton notched 43 points, 14 rebounds, 11 assists as the Blues went 2-1 last week.

Rachael Sider (New Wsetminster, B.C.) has been making a crucial contribution for Toronto with 9.7 points per game and 5.4 rebounds per game while forward Alicia Van Kampen (Amaranth, Ont.) has been solid on the boards with 5.9 rebounds.

The Gee-Gees (8-3) sit in second place in the OUA East division. They are led by Stephanie MacDonald who averages 17.2 points per game while teammate Maddie Stephen has been putting up 9.3 points and rebounds per game.

Elizabeth Roach leads the No.1 Ravens (8-3) with 15.4 points per game. Carleton is coming off a 2-0 weekend against Algoma and Laurentian.

The Blues are 2-10 and remain in eighth place in the OUA East division after falling to the York Lions and Queen's Gaels this past weekend.

Fifth-year guard Alex Hill (Toronto) has taken over the number one spot on the OUA leaderboard and ranks second in the CIS with 26.1 points per game, and has tallied 313 points so far this season for the Blues.

Second-year forward Devin Johnson (Ajax, Ont.) has been tallying the points on the court with 9.6 points per game and 5.1 rebounds per game.

The No. 2 Gee-Gees (10-1) sit in third place in the OUA East division and are led by Johnny Berhanemeskel with 24.7 points per game.

Philip Scrubb, the two-time CIS player of the year, leads the unbeaten Ravens with 18.9 points per game while brother Thomas Scrubb has 8.1 rebounds per game.
