Box Score Third-year guard Rachael Sider matched her career-high performance of 21 points for the second consecutive game in a 72-61 losing effort to the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Friday night (Feb. 8) at Montpetit Hall.
With the loss, the Blues drop to 9-8 but remain in third place in the OUA East division. Ottawa improves to 14-4 and sit two points back of the first-place Carleton Ravens (15-3).
Sider (New Westminster, B.C.) added a team-high nine boards on the night. Fellow guard Jill Stratton notched 16 points, with Liane Bailey (Montreal) adding eight in the loss.
Down by seven (35-28) early in the third quarter, Toronto rallied, led by a 14-point second half from Sider.and took a three-point advantage (45-42) into the fourth quarter.
Tied 54-54 with less than five minutes remaining, Ottawa ended the game on a 18-7 streak to secure the win.
Jenna Gilbert led Ottawa and all players with 24 points, with Keillie Ring adding a double-double of 11 points and 10 boards in the win.
The Varsity Blues return to action tomorrow night as they take on the Carleton Ravens in Ottawa. Tip off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
