Box Score The Varsity Blues men’s volleyball team fell 3-1 (25-20, 17-25, 26-24, 25-23) to the second-seeded Waterloo Warriors in OUA quarter-final action on Saturday night (Feb. 16) in Waterloo, Ont.
The Blues finished the regular season in seventh place with a 7-11 record, earning their first playoff berth since 2010. Toronto put up a valiant effort, making each set close with the nationally ranked Warriors.
Fifth-year veteran Mitchell Woodside of Clyde River, P.E.I., recorded a game-high 15 kills and 11 digs in his last game in the Blue and White. Third-year standout Jake Dysselhof added eight kills and 12 digs, while Jonathan Adomait had seven kills on the night.
Waterloo got out to a 16-13 lead in the first set and slowly widened the gap en route to a 25-20 victory. The Blues battle back though, building a 16-14 advantage in the second and eventually taking the set 25-17 to even the score at 1-1.
Trailing 16-11 at the third set technical time out, the Blues rallied and tied the game at 24-24 before the Warriors notched the last two points and set win.
Leading 16-15 in the fourth, U of T went on a 4-1 run to built a four-point 20-16) advantage; however, the Warriors showed their dominance, ending the match on a 9-3 streak to take the match and advance to the OUA Final Four.
Fiodar Kazhamiaka and Jordan Dyck each tallied 10 kills to lead the Warriors, with Kazhamiaka and Zachary Doherty adding six blocks apiece in the win.
