The Varsity Blues women’s hockey team heads to London, Ont., for Game 1 of a best-of-three OUA quarter-final series with the Western Mustangs on Wednesday, February 13 at 7 p.m.

Game 3, if necessary, is back in London on Sunday at 4 p.m.

The Varsity Blues ended the regular season with a 15-8-3 record in fifth place, seven points behind the fourth-seeded Western Mustangs (19-5-2).

The two teams met twice in the regular season, with both games needing extra time to determine a winner. U of T defeated Western 3-2 in overtime on Oct. 19 at home, and the Mustangs edged the Blues 4-3 in OT on Jan. 27 in London.

Toronto will be out for revenge after Western ended their 2012 playoff campaign. The Mustangs took the 2012 quarter-final series, 2-0, with a 4-1 win at Varsity Arena and 3-2 overtime win at home.

The Blues will look to team captain Kelly O’Hanlon to steer the ship. The Markham, Ont., native finished seventh in OUA scoring with 12 goals and 15 assists in 26 games. Rookie forward Taylor Day (Ilderton, Ont.) is riding a hot streak, scoring four goals and adding two assist in the last four games. Day finished the season with 19 points.

Veteran forward Callie Bazak of Peterborough, Ont., ended the regular season as the team’s top goal scorer, with 13 tallies on the year.

U of T boasts one of the hottest goaltending duos in the CIS. Sophomore Krista Funke (Regina) holds a 0.938 save percentage, good for third in the OUA, over 12 games, while third-year standout Nicole Kesteris (Aurora, Ont.) has a 0.916 percentage in 15 games.

Second-year forward Stacey Scott (London, Ont.) led the Mustangs with 14 goals and 14 assists in the regular season. Katelyn Godling boasts a team-high 19 helpers, while both Kendra Deller and rookie Kryshandra Green have scored nine goals this season.

Kelly Campbell (St. Thomas, Ont.) backstops the Mustangs between the pipes and leads the 0.942 save percentage in 21 games.

The University of Toronto is the proud host of the 2013 CIS women's hockey championship, March 7-10, at Varsity Arena.
