BLUES BOUNCE BACK WITH BIG WIN OVER RIDGEBACKS

Box Score Four different players scored as the University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team defeated the UOIT Ridgebacks 5-1 on Saturday night (Nov. 9) in Oshawa, Ont.

With the win, the Blues improve to 6-4-0, while the Ridgebacks drop to 3-6-0.

Fourth-year forward and assistant captain Michael Markovic (Toronto) opened the scoring 7:42 into the game as the Blues took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

Sophomore defenceman Dylan Heide of Winnipeg put Toronto up by two early in the second period with a powerplay goal assisted by Jeff Brown and Tyler Liukkonen and Paul Van De Velde added his fourth goal of the season less than three minutes later.

Richmond Hill, Ont., native Andrew Doyle added Toronto's fourth just over a minute after that and the Blues carried a dominant 4-0 lead into the third period.

Markovic, U of T's leading scorer, added his second of the night and eighth of the season just 52 seconds into the final frame.

UOIT would spoil the shut out 34 seconds later, but it was the Blues who skated off with the two points.

Third-year netminder Brett Willows of Rivers, Man., made 34 saves and earned his fourth win of the season between the pipes.  

The Varsity Blues return to action this Friday, November 15 as they host the Carleton Ravens at Varsity Arena. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
