BROWN, BLUES UPSET NO. 8 LIONS

Box Score Third-year forward Jeff Brown scored two goals in leading the University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team to a 4-2 victory over the No. 8 York Lions on Saturday night (Oct. 26) at Canlan Ice Sports.

With the win, the Blues improve to 4-2-0 and hand the first-place Lions (5-1-0) their first loss of the season.

Brown opened the scoring on a breakaway, snapping the puck past York netminder Andrew Perugini on a breakaway midway through the first period. The Lions bounced right back with a goal off of Jesse Messier's stick 52 seconds later and the game remained tied at 1-1 heading into the second period.

Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., native Tyler Liukkonen notched his first goal of the season 5:36 into the second period and Brown notched a powerplay marker, the eventual game-winner five minutes later.

Messier brought the game within one for York 12 seconds into the third period; however that was all the Lions would muster as Casey Knight added an insurance marker with 1:27 to go in the game to secure the win.

Blues goalie Garrett Sheehan (Cremona, Alta.) made 26 saves in the victory.

The Varsity Blues return to action this Thursday, October 31 as they head to Guelph, Ont., to take on the Gryphons. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
